The Anatomy of Failure-Proof Tiling
A beautiful tile job is useless if the foundation leaks. I use strict waterproofing methods and engineered layouts to make sure your shower or floor lasts for decades.
Schluter waterproofing system
I use complete Schluter systems including Kerdi board, Kerdi band, and Kerdi shower trays. Old cement boards and paint on liquids crack when your house shifts. Schluter membranes stretch to isolate movements, keeping mold and water completely out of your walls.
Leveling clips that prevent lippage
Large tiles always cup slightly in the kiln. If you set them on uneven floors, the edges stick up. I lock every tile down with mechanical tension levelers. This holds the tiles perfectly flush until the mortar cures.
Premium Epoxy and Urethane Grouting
Cement grout absorbs dirty water like a sponge, which leads to mold and stains. I use Laticrete Spectralock epoxy or advanced urethanes. They cure into a solid seal that repels grease and water, and they never need sealing.
Miters and Natural Stone Trims
I do not use cheap metal or plastic trim to finish custom soap niches. I hand grind and miter corner joints on raw stone at a forty five degree angle, or polish the edge of the tile itself. It takes longer, but the result is a clean, continuous stone return.
